February 2014 - Photoshop Fun

Well I guess I'm keeping my word by making a post at least once a month. Then again, it's only February so that's not saying much. At least it's a small victory right?

Anyways, I should get on with the update. So for my current animation project, I've been able to work on it and was able to get a scene completed with another one near completion. Unfortunately, I ran into a few problems with my current scene. I've been running into issues where applied Toon Lines are not showing when rendered and I still haven't exactly figured out what's wrong. I'm still working on trying to solve this issue but as of this post, I'm not having a lot of luck. I also need to create a few more models for the current scene I'm working on as well. Turns out I've forgot to model a few things when I was planning the setting. The modeling shouldn't take very long though as they're nothing too major. I should have taken a screenshot on the scene but I guess I kinda spaced out on it working on the encountered problems. Hopefully, I'll have a screenshot on my next post.

Along with my animation project, I've been working on some other media projects at the same time. One of them was making my demo reel. Yep, I finally have one up and running. It's actually a pretty terrible one but I don't exactly have a lot of work to show. I just did what I can with what I have. It'll definitely improve once I have more works to show but for the time being, it'll have to do.

The other projects I've been working on are all related to Photoshop. Yeah, finally the title of this post makes sense. I've been doing a lot of simple text effects with Photoshop this month. Mainly, it's due to the fact that I've acquired a batch of brushes and patterns and I thought I'll try them out and have a little fun while I'm at it. Besides, it'll help expand my limited knowledge I have in Photoshop. Best way to learn is to try things out and that's pretty much what I did for the large part of the month.

However, there was a project in particular that stood out amongst the other Photoshop projects I did. The project I'm talking about is designing a menu cover for my parents' restaurant. Now it's nothing big or fancy. The old covers weren't working out so they just wanted it redesigned. My parents just basically said do whatever looks good. Very vague right? Anyways, so I looked through my computer archives to find anything that may be interesting that I could use for the flier. I then came across an image that contained a logo that my parents had for their old restaurant. I figured, why not use it?

One hour later on Photoshop and I created a very simple menu cover. After showing it to my parents, they absolutely loved it. Mainly, it's because I brought back the old logo and gave them a nostalgic feeling. They loved it so much that they've decided to reuse the old logo and make it the restaurant's official logo. It's a pretty cool feeling that they're using the logo again. I may not have designed it but I guess I brought it back. Anyways, so now whenever people come into my parents' restaurant, they'll now see my menu cover that I created and the logo I brought back.

So that's pretty much it for this post. I'll post another one sometime next month. To finish this post, I'm going to put some of the Photoshop stuff I created this month including the menu cover I made. Until next time, have a good one.
